Hello from San Luis Obispo, CA

Hi everyone my name is Erin and it's nice to meet you all. I currently live in San Luis Obispo, CA which is in the Central Coast region halfway between LA and SF. I hail from Phoenix, AZ and received my BFA in Theatre History/Dramaturgy from the university of Arizona. My boyfriend and I moved to California in the summer of 2009 so I could intern at a local theatre company. My love of research and outreach lead me to pursue the degree here with SLIS and I plan to graduate in December. My focus has been on web technologies and youth services. My dream job would be as a teen services librarian, but living in a small more rural area like this it might not happen right away. I currently volunteer at my local public library and last week put in an application for a part-time librarian position at our local community college. Will hopefully find out within the next week or two if I will be working for them as well.

I'm very excited about this class and learning even more about Web 2.0 and social networking. I love all the things that technology has to offer us! I've been on the web since about 1998, creating my own websites on Geocities and used to frequent usenet, message boards and chat rooms. The last few years I've been using StumbleUpon, which is amazing! I find all sorts of new unique recipes to try, videos to share, and my knowledge about the world keeps on growing through the sharing of sites on the web. I'm looking forward to using delicious as I've heard lots of good things about it as well. I really think that libraries are at a point in their lives where if technology is not embraced then they might not survive the next 10-20 years. An online and interactive presence is so important for libraries right now as people spend more and more of their time in online/virtual environments. I often implemented new technologies into old ways of doing things in the theatre and look forward to bringing those concepts into the library. I could go on for a long time about these issues and it's a subject quite near and dear to my heart.

In my non school time I enjoy reading on my new Kindle  (of course), watching movies (think my collection is over 1,200 titles), cooking for friends, camping, listening to music, and being with my friends.
Looking forward to working with you all this semester!
